Festival cairns to continue to be managed by cairns regional council

Festival Cairns will be proudly presented and coordinated by its founding organisation Cairns Regional Council 2010 until 2012, while it investigates the esatblishement of a not-for-profit organisation to manage the event in future years. The delivery of Festival Cairns by council's Cultural Services and Facilities branch proved competent, creative and well placed to continue the management of the Festival over the next 3 years.

The opening of a new Green Island jetty on 26 May, 1962 was established as the first annual Cairns Tourist Festival, and renamed "Fun in the Sun" the following year. Since then Tropical North Queensland's most significant annual celebration, bow in its 47th year, has experience a number of changes including its re-launch in the early nineties as "Reef Festival" before it's dynamic incarnation in 2002 as "Festival Cairns".
