Desley Boyle's Story
Desley has been a Cairns local for over 30 years. She loves the hum and the energy that comes from being a busy and developing City that is surrounded by the magnificent natural beauty of the mountains, rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef.
When she is away from Cairns she misses it dreadfully – an unfortunate by-product of the life of a politician. Desley has been the Member for Cairns since 1998 and a Minister in the Queensland Government since 2004.
Her current portfolio responsibilities are Local Government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships. Prior to moving into state politics Desley was a psychologist.
She holds masters degrees in business administration and psychology. She was a councillor on Cairns City Council from 1988-1994 including two years as Deputy Mayor and has been active in many community and business organisations in Cairns and the region.
