Posters to the People

As a lead in to the 2010 Cairns Festival, we've invited four great artists in our region to supply an image that speaks to their own visual language and graphic identity. We selected this quartet to be intentionally diverse, originating from different places: a North, East, South, and West of the local visual arts landscape. Dominic Johns, Arone Meeks, Caroline Mudge, and Sam Tupou answered our call...

But here's the good part...

Cairns Festival, with the help of Joel Goodman at Auxiliary Central, has produce a limited edition poster of each artist's work as a way to honor and acknowledge these talents and visual communicators resident in our own backyard. The Festival is proud to offer four unique representations of what local artists are making here in Cairns, pure and simple...

And here's the even better part...

Now that the Festival Headquarters is open in City Place, we've piled the posters in the foyer, in stacks of 500 each, and now invite the community to come in, have a look, and go home with whichever images they want. It's an instant art collection, free of charge, and the Festival's gift to those who support and advance culture makers in the Cairns Region. Visit us soon and grab your favourite one, or bundle up the entire set of four. This warm up to the 2010 Cairns Festival is called Posters to the People, and it's just another way that we, and you, can help us increase the art.

And that is the best part...
